Studying the early phase of (prostate) cancer liver and bone metastasis

Supervisor: Franziska Linke, f.linke@erasmusmc.nl

Organs-on-a-chip are state-of-the-art, novel in vitro models that can bridge the research gap between conventional static in vitro culture and in vivo systems. We are using organs-on-a-chip to model different interfaces of (prostate) cancer metastasis, such as bone or liver in collaboration with academic and industrial partners. MEP projects are available alongside running postdoc and PhD projects on prostate cancer cell behaviour under flow conditions (derived from different patients), early immune cell interaction at the metastatic site, therapy response and resistance development and early matrix remodelling.

Techniques

  • (primary) cell and organoid culture
  • hydrogel preparation and loading into an organ-on-chip
  • (time-lapse) imaging
  • IHC and confocal microscopy
  • ELISA, qRT PCR
